Law/Patents
French term or phrase: J.O. du 23 mars 1972
addressée en application du décret du 16 septembre 1972 et modifiée par le décret du 21 mars,1973 (J.O. du 23 mars)
The abbreviation in parentheses has me stumped
Lucien Marcelet
English translation:Journal Officiel of 21 March 1973
Explanation:
It does mean "Official Gazette" but it should not be translated. You could always put a translation in parentheses at the first occurrence.

Dates should be rendered in the British style.

Incidentally, it is generally incorrect to translate "Décret" as "Decree."
"Order" would generally be more appropriate.

official gazette

Explanation:
this is the usual translation for the name of the document where governments (local, federal, etc) usually make their dispositions known. Once it is published there it is legally valid.
Hope it helps,
Claudia

Journal Officiel (du palais)

Explanation:
Hello!
I doubt one should translate such a word, it would be like calling The Times, Le Temps.
But it stands for the Official (Law)Gazette alright.
Good luck!

Official journal/journal officiel

Explanation:
probably since it is the French official journal you'd want to keep it in the French. however, on UN web pages the official English translation is : official journal. but this refers to the official jurnal of europe. hope that helps
