According to a survery by ...

Explanation:
"According to a survey by X and Y, over 50% of major corporations would be testing or implementing a SAN architecture due to 4 main reasons"... The use of "would" is literally correct but I suggest the following: According to a survey by X and Y, over 50% of major corporations are (in the process of) testing or implementing a SAN architecture due to 4 main reasons:... According to Webster's Dictionary, "data" is "now usually with sing. v.).

begging respectfully to differ....

Explanation:
Sometimes (all too often, IMHO) French uses the conditional as a sort of tentative step toward the subjunctive, to suggest that the events or situations being reported may not necessarily be true to fact.

Case precisely in and on point: "According to a survey conducted by X and Y, more than 50% of major companies are currently testing or implementing an SAN architecture..."

Agreeing completely, however, on "data": plural in Latin, plural sometimes in esoteric American academic publications (usually in theoretical math and particle physics), but definitely singular in the freewheeling, iconoclastic world of programming, multimedia, and networking.

are said to be in the testing phase ; would appear to be

Explanation:
Really nothing special about this usage. It's hypothetical, not knwon for sure, said to be the case, thus conditional. Point.

Explanation:
I don't think that "would be testing" although a form of the conditional, can be correct. "Would be testing" implies that they would be doing it if... but that they are not. The suggestion is that they very probably are, just that they don't know for sure.

Any grammar (Glanville Price) for example will bear this out.

... are said to be ...

Explanation:
Just a note to support Nikki on this one. The conditional is used a lot in journalism etc. to indicated reported speech or ideas.
