French term or phrase: empilement à l’argent
Good afternoon,.

I am working on a patent-related document which concerns a major objection to the patent in question. I do not see how "empilement à l’argent" used in this context has anything to do with the tocument.

"Ainsi, dans le document A12, on voit que les plus basses valeurs de l’émissivité, pour un empilement à l’argent (le plus performant) sont de l’ordre de quelques pourcents (voir tableau 3 page 6 ou tableau 4 page 9)."

I thank you in advance for your help with this matter.

Best regards,

Richard

Low emissivity (low e or low thermal emissivity) refers to a surface condition that emits low levels of radiant thermal (heat) energy. All materials absorb, reflect and emit radiant energy, but here, the primary concern is a special wavelength interval of radiant energy, namely thermal radiation of materials with temperatures approximately between 40 to 60 degrees Celsius.

Emissivity is the value given to materials based on the ratio of heat emitted
compared to a blackbody, on a scale from zero to one. A blackbody would have an emissivity of 1 and a perfect reflector would have a value of 0.

6. Low emissivity silver based coatings
Low emissivity coatings, first commercialized for the window industry to provide insulating glazing, consist of a layer of a thermally reflective, or low emissivity metal sandwiched between transparent dielectric layers. These dielectric layers act to both antireflect and protect the metal layer. The thermally reflective metal is typically silver, which is also a very effective reflector of solar infrared radiation.

The lowest emissivity values for a multilayer stack of silver coatings (the material with the best performance) represent several percentage points. What this means is unclear from the provided context.

Surprisingly, I found in my old technical dictionary that "empilement" can be the interior lining of some kind of chamber. Silver lining? silver coating? Does that make sense in your context?
