French term or phrase: tests vus-lus
Does anyone know if there is a specific English equivalent for this term? Thanks, Karen

reader satisfaction samples/checks
Explanation:
Found one mention of such tests when searching with Google:

"Tests de satisfaction clientèle : bilan sur un produit ou un
service après utilisation (permet d’obtenir toute une palette
d’expériences et de quantifier les éventuels problèmes
émergents)
Ex :
- tests auprès d’utilisateurs de calculatrices graphiques
- tests Vu-Lu auprès des lecteurs d’un journal
d’entreprise ou d’abonnés à un club de VPC."
www.qualiquanti.com/methodqq/methodqq_domaine.html

The context makes it fairly clear that this has to do with *reader* satisfaction.

Some examples of the use of "test," from Termium:
English:Humanities and Social Sciences
acceptability check s
1976-06-19

English:Statistical Surveys
sampling s CORRECT
test s CORRECT,NOUN
testing s CORRECT
DEF - The examination of a selection of items from a population with the objective of inferring characteristics of the entire population from the sample. s

Thanks very much, Yolanda! That terms fits perfectly. I did a search on Google, too, but didn't find anything - probably because I put "vu, lu" in the plural. Karen

reader focus groups???

Explanation:
I'm not sure but... could these tests be reader focus groups? (The French refering in priority to what goes on in the group; the English refering to the group itself?)

A quick google search for "reader focus groups" brought up a few responses in which magazines conduct reader focus groups to help orient their content/look.

A quick search on "test vu lu" gave the following:

http://www.pqr.org/Pqr/Autres.nsf/PagesHTML/StandardsImpact?...

From the little they say (they talk about the "score vu/lu"), makes me think these tests are surveys to determine if their readers saw or read the content... which makes me think that reader focus group is not a good solution after all... but I don't have much better to offer.
Perhaps something with "reader uptake"??

Hoping someone else has a better/more sure suggestion...

reader recall tests

Explanation:
I spoke with someone familiar with this type of test, and though he doesn't know French, he said it sounded as if the text was talking about "reader recall tests." Readers are asked what they remember seeing and reading in a certain issue of a magazine to assess the impact of various articles, headlines and photos.
