Hi Emma, perhaps I am influenced by a lot of the museum work I do, but another common use of kiosk is what I've pointed out to CMJ below, meaning a small stand-alone device providing information and *services* on a computer screen (def Webster's). For example, the museums I work with refer to multimedia interactive kiosks, which are very similar to the touch-screen technology used in these ticket exchange machines.
But of course terminal can be used, or even simply machine. :-)

neutral  xxxCMJ_Trans: these are NOT kiosks nor are they booths but vending machines often even et the entrance to the platform (cf. Thalys or TGV)
