French term or phrase: collapsus cardiaque
Il faut se rappeler qu'une sympathectomie même complète laisse un tonus considérable dans les artères, mais la présence d'hypoxie et d'acidose surimposée peut amener une chute supplémentaire du tonus artériel, une hypotension plus prononcée et un collapsus cardiaque.

Is that simply another way or saying cardiac arrest or is there such a thing as a cardiac collapse?

English translation:cardiogenic collapse
Explanation:
This is a very specific term. While cardiac collapse can convey the meaning, it is not the accepted English medical / physiological term. It certainly does not mean cardiac arrest as was put forward by another learned friend. This term refers to collapse which is of a cardiac origin, as opposed to neuro causes.

Cardiogenic Shock / Heart Circulatory Collapse

Explanation:
I currently work for a medical assistance company, where much of my time is spent translating French and German medical reports and liasing with overseas medical staff. In my experience, "collapsus cardiac" refers to either of the above.
