... can cause the [needle] bevel to straddle the dura. Explanation: SEE: Precision-formed side hole permits the directional flow of anesthetic and reduces the possibility of the bevel straddling the dura. Anesthesists want to MINIMISE THE RISK OF DURA PUNCTURE. According to some, indeed: En effet la pointe crayon dimimue les céphalées post-rachianesthésie (injection à cheval sur la dure-mère). This type of headaches occurs when the dura (the covering outside the spinal cord) is punctured by the needle. CSF (spinal fluid) which bathes the spinal cord and brain then leaks out of the hole created by the needle. REGARDING PDPDH (postdural puncture headache), SEE A clear definition of PDPH is necessary to be able to compare its incidence as reported by different authors. It is given by Carrie and Collins: “A headache occurring after dural puncture which has a significant effect on the patient’s postoperative wellbeing..." Internet, TERMIUM |
