French term or phrase:prelevements arteriels
This is a sentence from a text dealing with the risk of infection associated with various catheters; this particular sentence comes from a section concerning peripheral arterial catheters and their use: "Reserver exclusivement le systeme aux prelevements arteriels, et ne pas les utiliser pour eviter un prelevement veineux, excepte en urgence et/ou lorsque celui-ci est techniquement impossible" I am having trouble with the "prelevements arteriels" and "prelevement veineux" - are they replacements or do you have any ideas?? HTH, Nick
French: "La figure 1 montre la répartition des types de prélèvements selon le poids de naissance : les MP sont largement utilisés dans toutes les catégories même si les prélèvements artériels sont plus fréquents chez les moins de 1000 g et les plus de 2000 g."
English: "Figure 1 shows the sampling procedures in relation to birthweight. More arterial sampling than capillary sampling by heel lances was performed in the sickest infants, ie < 1000 grams and > 2000 grams."
The expressions "arterial sampling," "venous sampling," and "capillary sampling" (or "samplings") are suitable for technical written material. In everyday hospital language, however, the common expression among the staff is "arterial blood draws," etc.
