French term or phrase: réinsertion d\'un ménisque entier
just want to check: is this "resection of the whole meniscus" (or "total meniscal resection") - ? "Reinsertion" doesn't seem to be used in English really.
(I should have asked earlier...)

entire cartilage re-insertion

Explanation:
Sorry. I disagree with you, especially since I myself went through this very operation and this is how it was referred to.

meniscal replacement

Explanation:

There are 2 possibilities depending on the situation. (There is not much context given.)
1) Either a damaged meniscus was replaced with another one, or
2) During exploratory surgery, the entire meniscus was removed then the same meniscus was put back.

In either case meniscal replacement may apply.

entire meniscus reinsertion

Explanation:
I believe you need to stay close to the French here. The ruptured meniscus may have been taken out, sutured and reinserted. Using the term "replacement" covers it, but is not as precise as the French. "Reinsertion" is by no means unheard of and gives a clear indication that we are dealing with the same meniscus.

I meant to say

I do not think that this is "resection" at all:

The point here is that they seem to be putting back the same meniscus.

The only other thing they could be referring to maybe is reinsertion of a ligament

Asker: Thank you Liz. I just didn't find much specifically about reinsertion so wondered if it was termed differently in Eng. I also think they mean putting the same one back.
