French term or phrase: milieu appauvri
Material for an eye tolerance test for a cosmetic substance..."cellules SIRC à confluence conservées dans un milieu appauvri jusqu'à l'utilisation du kit", at which point this is replaced by a "milieu de régénération". I have found "regeneration solution" for the latter term, but am not sure about the former..."depleted medium"? "depleted solution"? Perhaps another adjective. Any informed advice much appreciated.

depleted medium
Explanation:
The answer should be in your text. There are mediums containing low concentration of certain agents (or nutrients) and corresponding mediums enriched, in order to promote growth (post-starvation).

Without further context, I would say depleted.

agree  Carmen Schultz: if you're saying depleted medium (using medium for milieu) why can't you also use milieu with regeneration/regenerated for parallel construction or consistency?
