French term or phrase: brevet militaire professionnel élémentaire
Translating a certificate of military service completed in France, a nice assignment for US Veterans' Day.

'Brevet militaire professionel élémentaire' is as far as I've gotten from BMPE - and the context is:

[...] certifie que [nom] ayant obtenu "BMPE" a reçu une formation pratique de "Informaticien" [etc.]

basic military trade certificate (BPME)
Explanation:
Élémentaire = basic (in militarise)
Professionnel (is NOT lawyers, doctors etc) but refers to TRADES including combat functions such as infantryman
brevet is a general term for diplomas and certificates ranging from a simple course up to an officer's commission.
Thus BPME is a basic military trade certificate. Use the French abreviation since there is no exact equivalent in non-French armies.
Refs: Google in French Armée française BPME. You will see that it appears to be a qualification obtained shortly after your first haircut, and applies to all trades.
