French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Music / Software engineering
French term or phrase:modélisation d'effets
This has to do with a software reproducing the sounds of instruments.
"Le logiciel offre des modélisations d'effets réalistes." I.e., the sounds are realistically imitated by the programme.
What would be a proper term to render that in English?
I'm sorry, Angela, but that is incorrect because..

...in software products, if it is the modelling that were to be deemed realistic, it would involve haptics or force feedback of sorts and/or provide crude models or other imitative devices as input to emulate the ***behavior*** in creating a particular effect so as to achieve a corresponding realistic effect as output. Said effects are usually synthesized in some proprietary way. Simplest example of this is an electronic keyboard.
Simply put: it's the result that's supposed to be realistic, not the way in which the result is produced, which is why I disagree with the interpretation here that it's the "modelling" that's realistic.
Wow. None of those effects are "real" or "realistic". Baffles me that someone in the music industry would be writing anything describing them as realistic, but "effects modeling" (with 's') seems to be on track. Good luck.
