French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Nuclear Eng/Sci
French term or phrase:en cours de qualification
This is from a press release about construction works and commissioning of a new nuclear location, which is nearing completion. In another section of the article, they talk about centrifuges being installed and brought on line in another unit.
C’est aussi un chantier d’envergure qui progresse activement sur l’unité nord. Le chantier civil est pratiquement terminé. Dans le même temps, la ligne de production des centrifugeuses est en cours de qualification, conformément au planning. L’unité nord devrait démarrer fin 2012.
Does it mean this "ligne de production des centrifugeuses" is being qualified by an outside agency? That there is an in-house qualification process underway? Etc.
Quite: qualified is sufficient in English. You don't need to be any more specific when the French isn't. @ Kevin: yes, qualified usually means approved for use with certain materials, processes, plants etc.
