a dot com company Explanation: You are right. There are zillions of webrefs to this sector of the economy. Here is just one amusing one where you will read "If you're not a dot com, you're nobody". Nikki Reference: http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/1999/45/ns-11524.html |

start-up Explanation: I'd just call it a start-up. For example, I know of one investment bank specialising in internet companies that refers to itself as a "start-up bank". It is not a dot.com. Dot.coms are e-businesses whereas a start-up doesn't necessarily have to be an e-business..... ... Cheers, Brian |

dot com ; start-up (are they synonymous???) Explanation: Upon reflection, I was wondering if "dot com" and "start-up" were not basically one & the same thing. Judging by the way I see and hear this term used in the press here in France, it is used to refer to companies which set up thier business through the creation of thier own, new website through which they subsequently conduct their business activity. I thought that was what a "dot com" was and indeed a "start-up" too. I think I need to look into this further. A "start-up bank" as I understand it, is a lending bank for internet-based businesses looking for financial backing... Maybe I should post a question??? Yes, I will! Let's see what answers we get back??? |
