This appears twice in the same document about two different people (parties to an employment agreement in West Africa). Is it possible that neither of them knows in which year they were born? Or does this simply mean "born in 1952"?

Thank you. Both answers were equally helpful but since I have to choose, I give the points to the first.
born around 1952
Explanation: It is quite possible that neither of them knows their exact year of birth. In some countries the date of birth is still associated with local holidays or other important events in the community and not with the Gregorian calendar.
