levanter

also spelled Levante, strong wind of the western Mediterranean Sea and the southern coasts of France and Spain. It is mild, damp, and rainy and is most common in spring and fall. Its name is derived from Levant, the land at the eastern end of the Mediterranean, and refers to the wind's eastward direction. The levanter reaches its maximum intensities in the Strait of Gibraltar, where it sometimes brings eastward-flying airplanes almost to a standstill. It causes foggy weather on the Spanish coast for up to two days at a time. The levanter results from a merging of the clockwise winds of a high-pressure centre over central Europe with the counterclockwise winds of a low-pressure centre over the southwestern Mediterranean.

Explanation:
"moderate winds" (above) looks ok to me (except for the "fameux" which makes me wonder if there isn't a specific regional wind at work in your text).

There is a wealth of information that you might find useful on regional wind names at: http://www.msu.edu/user/rtsmith/wind/names.htm
and a glossary of related terms at: http://www.msu.edu/user/rtsmith/wind/i_o_term.htm

There is also this site on winds that might be helpful: http://freespace.virgin.net/mike.ryding/local.htm

Hope this helps

moderate wind

Explanation:
Moderate wind is fine in context as the wind is not named. It does have a name though, see below

http://www.msu.edu/user/rtsmith/wind/names.htm

"levanter
blows through the Straits of Gibraltar, funneled through the gap between the high plateau of Spain and the Atlas Mountains of North Africa"

This place is a windsurfer's paradise, as is the bottom bit of Spain just opposite.
