I discovered a big hole in the window

Explanation:
Since I do not see the entire sentance I will presume that the tense of the verb is inccorect.

je decouvre un grand trou dans la fenetre.

This sentance is very ackward as it is written int he present tense and would not be used in this fashion.

Rather an author would write j'ai découvert un grand trou dans la fenêtre...

Therefore my suggestion would be to put it in the past tense.

I come upon a big hole in the window.

Explanation:
If you use the word decouvre in French as something you see all of a sudden, then I would use come upon, a phrsal verb that means trouver tout d'un coup.
