French to English translations [Non-PRO]
French term or phrase: Champs complémentaires / champs supplémentaires
Both these terms appear in some notes explaining what information is required in the completion of fields for an on-line registration form. How do these two terms differ in meaning? Does "champs complémentaires" mean "additional fields", whereas "champs supplémentaires" could mean "complementary fields"?
Thanks for your confirmation or otherwise!

Explanation:
Complementary fields are for complementary information, i.e., information that could not fir in the normal field but is part of it. Supplementary fields are for additional information, that is information that is not part of the normal field but relates to it.

Cheers,

Béa

additional fields

Explanation:
Hi Sarah,

As far as I can see, the author simply used synonyms, to make the reading less redundant.
The meaning appears to be twice the same : to add information to the db, you have to add extra fields.
I frequently work on localization of software or websites, and never encountered any difference between the two terms.
Hope it helps.

additional information

Explanation:
Hi Sarah,I think you can translate this phrase as *additional information* because generally you write in additional fields the additional information about you or anything.
Bonne chance!
