This term appears in a blason, describing a coat-of-arms that is said to have 'trois demi-vols' --- the picture clearly shows three things that COULD be feathers, or foxes brushes (logical, in view of the place it belongs to)

I'm assuming that the singular is demi-vol, and I guess the 'demi-' part is crucial; I even wondered about 'half-voles'!

agree  ArchyR: that's it and it needn't be translated. Demi-vol. = Used to describe a single wing of a bird with the features turned towards the sinister side of the shield. Several shields present three demi-vols on the same surface.
