agree  Didier Fourcot: "en dur" c'est de l'anglais avec des mots français, "hard-coded string" pourrait aussi être suffisant vu le public visé, le type "string" dans les langages de programmation ne contient que des caractères

  -> You can have hard-coded numeric strings and these might be permitted (they don't need translation). The French says "character" so I would use it in the translation.
