French term or phrase: partneraire santé de la voile
Sailing again. The company in question sponsors a boat that competes in several international racs. I don't know which way to go with this in English. Can I be so bold as to just say 'health parter' or should I use sponsor? I must admit that 'health partner' sounds a little funny to me.

English translation:Bayer
Explanation:
This is Bayer, skippered by Yvan Bourgnon until recently and to be skippered by Fréd Le Peutrec, if my memeory serves me right. Go for "health partner in sailing" as it describes the business of the sponsor.

Thanks, Nikki. I knew you would be right on. It is Bayer, as you say. Thanks very much again!

agree  jgal: yes, but I might suggest 'healthcare', rather than just 'health'.

Third (and last) note on this one!

Explanation:
There is a generally a difference between sponsor and parnter, although these terms are often used as if they were interchangeable.

Each boat on the professional circuit has (or hopes to have) a main sponsor. Sometimes they have more than one : eg La Triniatine-Team Ethypharm. Then to a lesser degree, partners become involved. Partners are suppliers of equipement, clothing and so on, which they give sometimes freely or at reduced cost to skipper and crew. In return, skipper and crew agree to wear the partner's gear when sailing, particularly when the media are around, to use it in publicity and so on. Equipment suppliers (partners) are usually accorded a strictly negotiated bit of ad space on the boat's hull or sails.

Sponsors pay for the construction and running costs of the boat, fork out the money for the salaries of skipper and crew. It is common for the skipper to have a small company structure through which all of this is managed.
