Thanks to all! It's times like this I wish I could split Kudos points. I agree with Colin that "modéliste" implies more than simply a textile designer and this is supported by the additional context I have received. However, I think "textile designer" is preferable to "fabric designer" and I think "dress designer" is too restrictive. I have opted for "textile and fashion designer" and I'm awaiting the client's approval. Again, thanks to all...

junior designer/stylist ; pattern cutter/grader

Explanation:
From what I have seen I think this is the pattern cutter / grader and junior stylist. Your choice of term will really depend on what the person actually does. Two things : don't forget that there is a tendency to embellish descriptions and that there are great differences in what is understood in a term, particularly with job descriptions. Unfortnately you have not said whether this is designer wear, prêt-à-porter or industrial produced clothing.

Pattern Cutters :
At this juncture, the drawings are handed over to the pattern cutters who have to translate the designer's working drawings into a form suitable for factory production. The pattern cutters may follow two principal approaches to develop these patterns: modelling directly onto an individual dress form to achieve the designer's style or flat pattern cutting, which is using a standard block pattern shape and manipulating it to an almost unlimited range of styles. The pattern cutters also have the added responsibility to cut a production pattern which is utilised for grading into a range of sizes by the graders.

Explanation:
It all depends on what is understood byt the term « modéliste toiliste ». Here’s one site which explains what one might be expected to do in his/her job. Sounds to me that textile designer is way off mark.

Here’s one explanation of what a « modéliste toiliste » does. « A partir des croquis des stylistes: vous réalisez les toiles que vous validez avec les stylistes, et supervisez la réalisation des patronages par notre service Lectra. » So, based on the designers’ sketches, the person oversees and produces patterns. (pattern maker/pattern cutter). The « toiles » referred to are the first « draft » copy of a garment, the prototypes or samples.
