the dictionary translation "seething with anger" does not seem to fit my context, I think it is meant more in the sense of "envie violente" as in "rage de vivre" etc... this is also my instinctive understanding of "rage au coeur" from hearing it used... anyone care to comment ? thanks

Although my dictionary also has "seething with anger", I find that it is used very frequently today in France (especially in lyrics) to convey the meaning of a burning desire. That's language in motion, isn't it!
