This is a statistical term. In agricultural research anyway, we desire a confidence interval of 95%, or, conversely, significance at the 5% level. This simply means that whatever differences we observe in our experiments, we can be 95% sure that we got these differences because of what we were doing rather than by random chance. Or, conversely, random chance accounts for only 5% of the differences. Hope this helps.
