French term or phrase: charpentière
This is in the sense of a tree branch. Is it a main branch or something? Context: "les rameaux qui deviendront les futures charpentires"; Faut-il laisser les fleurs l'extrmit des charpentires des jeunes arbres?"

English translation:primary/main branches
Explanation:
Domaine(s) : agriculture 1 / 1
horticulture

secondary branch

sous-charpentière n. f.

Syn.
branche secondaire n. f.
charpentière secondaire n. f.
sous-mère n. f.

Déf. :
Branche formée des ramifications des branches primaires.

[1985]

Also found this entry in LGDT. My reasoning is that if this means a secondary branch, charpentière should mean primary or main branch, as you suggested. You might also consider using something along the lines of "framework of main branches".
