French term or phrase: polyvalence
I am translating a passage on the fertility of the soil in Naples and I feelthat I need to find a better term than "polyvalency" in the following sentence "...pour faire valoir la polyvalence du sol, due à sa générosité naturelle, accrue par un climat chaud à précipitations abondantes..."

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.
Helen
English translation:composite nature
Explanation:
Hi, I just did a search of all the entries for both polyvalence and polyvalent in my Termium and LGDT, and came up with lots of *versatile*/*versatility*, but LGDT also had an entry (in the field of education) for *composite*. And, of course, **composite** fits perfectly well in the fields of both geology and soils sciences.

diversity, versatility

Explanation:
My French dictionary gives for "polyvalence": "caractere de ce qui offre plusieurs possibilites. Qualite d'une personne qui a des capacites, des fonctions diverses." also "caractere d'un corps polyvalent" where "polyvalent" is "qui peut avoir different usages", or" capable d'executer differentes taches, d'occuper differentes fonctions." I would use "diversity".
