I can't actually work out why I am having difficulty here. All the words are fine. It could be that little word 'si' that is throwing me, a concise meaning isn't coming.

English translation:Even though.../ Although
Explanation:
I think the problem is that the sentence is too long. Anyway, if it is the "si" that baffles you, I would say that you can translate it as "Although it is generally agreed upon/ admitted / accepted that the usage ..." or something like that.

Thank you to you both. Sorry I wasn't too clear I wasn't entirely sure myself. The words were there but the meaning wasn't. It was the 'si'. I couldn't get away from 'If' - your suggestions helped, thanks again.

while, whereas

Explanation:
Not sure what you mean by your difficulty, but thought maybe you were wavering over the use of "if"...with "while" or "whereas" the sentence seems to make sense to me.

Not to worry!

Explanation:
It happens to all of us...sort of a translator's equivalent to not being able to see the forest for the trees!

Courage!
