French term or phrase: ouverture fermée
Calling all golf pros!

In a description of golf wedges (note: SW is sand wedge and PW is pitching wedge).

"En fonction de la distance et du terrain, vous pourrez choisir l'angle d'ouverture (le loft) de club.

(then describing the different wedges available)

- ouverture fermée equivalent au PW
- SW fermé pour plus de distance qu'avec un SW classique
- SW assez ouvert pour des approches ou sorties de bunker difficiles

From the research I've done, I've seen no references to closed or open loft for a wedge. I think the loft can also be described as the face angle (angle of face of clubhead to target: square, open and closed).
Since I am not a golfer, could any avid golfers confirm my translation for me?

- closed face angle equivalent to PW
- SW with a closed face angle for greater distance...
- SW with a fairly open face angle for approach shots...

Many thanks in advance,

46 to 50 degrees of loft or very little loft
Explanation:
wedge's loft and bounce angles define its true performance characteristics and should be considered important factors when deciding which wedge or wedges to put in your bag. Loft angle affects both trajectory and distance; the more loft, the higher the trajectory.

Here is a table, which is based on an average golfer and shows the loft/distance relationship in wedges:

Pitching wedge: 46 to 50 degrees of loft 100 to 125 yards [almost a 45 degree angle]
Gap wedge: 50 to 54 degrees of loft 85 to 110 yards
Sand wedge: 54 to 58 degrees of loft 65 to 95 yards [lesser angle..
Lob wedge: 58 to 62 degrees of loft 50 to 75 yards

The standard pitching wedge in your MP30 set has 47 degrees of loft so you could get anything from one to three wedges to compliment your set. I would certainly recommend a sand iron at 56 degrees but this would then leave a large 9 degree gap between your pitching wedge and sand iron. I would highly recommend putting a gap wedge (52 degree) in your bag as well so that you will have a club to use from 100 yards in.

Mara..ouverture means the measurement of the angles in the loft...angle d'ouverture. There is a very detailed picture of loft in the text I cited. .but the French doesn't put the degres in like English ...so angle d'ouverture fermée sounds like an almost 45 degree angle of loft...see the picture for loft..couldn't possible describe it in words...

Loft is the distance between the Club and the angle at which the wedge is set into the club..It measures an opening...not a face...anyway, I am not an expert but have been around a lot of gold players. Some wedges are almost right angled to the ground..and they get more and more angled up as given in the chart above. Think of looking at the wedge sideways...the loft is that angle there...
