French term or phrase: Verification de la tenue diéléctrique et de l'échauffement
Technical specifications on a circuit breaker.
Bharg Shah
English translation:Confirmation of dielectric strength and resistance to overheating
Explanation:
You could also say "determination of .....".

FYI, folks, "dielectric strength" is the maximum electrical potential that a material can withstand without rupture. Usually specified in terms of volts per millimeter of thickness, it's one of the standard parameters for circuit-breakers (whose purpose, of course, is to pop when conditions exceed certain designated values).

((It's easier, I guess, when you've worked in the field...))

Explanation:
check for quality of (see below) and overheating

Vérification=check,checking, verification;
tenue=control, running, upkeep, quality
etc.
echauffement=overheating
di=etomol. Gr. twice, two, double
connecting it with another word it
means sometimes also "through/by"
élèctrique=electrical

Unfortunately I could not find those
two words together in any of my dictionaries. I thought of power surge,
ground fault protection etc., because
double could poss. mean two wires/1 grounded/ 1 hot, but nothing
whatsoever checked out. Maybe someone
else can be of more help.

Verification of the dielectric quality and overheating.

I kept coming back to this one thinking its not really my specialty and someone else would give you a good answer.

If you put the previous two answers together and add Terminum's definition of dieletric, it gives you something like this. Termium has six references to diéléctrique. The one closest to your context is:

DOMAINE(S)
Électrostatique
Matériaux diélectriques (Électronique)

FR
diélectrique*d*CORRECT, MASC, NORMALISÉ
isolant*e*VOIR FICHE, MASC

I hope this is a help.
