French term or phrase: seuls imponderables externes
Les TST permettent de laisser aux seuls imponderables externes (accidents, phénomènes météorologiques) les coupures qui pénalisent les usages domestiques et industriels.
"Live working techniques enable..." How do you turn this out?
Cecilia
English translation:Try this: "Live working techniques...
Explanation:
...allow the causes of power failures that affect domestic and industrial users to be confined to the realm of random external events (such as accidents and meteorological phenomena)."

The French is awfully convoluted, but inverting the sentence and moving away from word-for-word makes it a little clearer. I think.

You're right, there wasn't any choice. (You should have seen some of the mottos the copywriter gave in with this, selling LW services. Puns that didn't translate. You can imagine that afterwards I didn't have any neurons left.) You've both been very helpful. Thanks!

only unpredictable external events

Explanation:
Here is the complete sentence:
"The TST mean that only unpredictable external events (accidents, meteorological phenomena) are left that may produce power cuts to impair domestic and industrial use."

Or "The TST mean that external unpredictable events (accidents, meteorological phenomena) remain the sole cause of the power cuts that may impair domestic and industrial use."
