French term or phrase: radiateur ailette'
radiator with fins?
Bear.
BearTrans
English translation:finned radiator
Explanation:
Most all radiators I know of have fins, whether they be on electronic circuit boards or components, electric motors, or internal combustion engines. The principle is always the same: cool some fluid or material through a wall with fins to radiate the heat out into a flow of air.

yes!

Explanation:
"To those who got this to work without cracking the housing - congrats, but I don't recommend it. I suspect that you need to replace the ///stock winged radiator cap//// with the round one from the AST to get this to work."

I guessed correctly. See web ref below, from which the above is taken.

some radiator CAPS have wings, but radiators themselves have fins...

Explanation:
The radiator-cap ornament, which sat on the far front end of the hood/bonnet, was a very popular and stylistically important design element in earlier automobiles. Wings, almost needless to say, were a classic part of the decoration (as well as making the cap somewhat easier to remove, as one often had to do, in order to refill the radiator with water or a water-plus-coolant mixture).

However, if you're talking about the radiator itself, as opposed to the partly functional and partly decorative radiator cap, the word is "fins" -- specifically, the cooling fins. These thin, often fragile strips of metal extend outward in multitudes, usually at a perpendicular angle, from the radiator body, and help greatly to dissipate the heat generated inside it. If your car has a water-cooled engine, look for the field of fins next time you get under the hood...

Cheers, HC
