French term or phrase: Domaines de l'informatique décisionnelle
Hello All, it's me again. Can the above be translated as CAD? I'm editing a text and that's the term the translator used. The company referred to is an IT services firm. Here's the entire sentence: "Ses principales interventions sont dans les domaines de l'informatique décisionnelle et des solutions Internet/Intranet." I thought CAD meant Computer Aided Design.

Again, thanks in advance

English translation:"...in the areas of decision support and Internet/intranet solutions"
Explanation:
is how I'd render it. The term "CAD" has been pretty decisively appropriated by the computer-aided design field, and its use here would, I think, only confuse the ultimate reader. "Decision support" is a common buzz-phrase, particularly in the somewhat nebulous world of IT services and the associated promotional literature. (Note too that although "Internet" (the one-and-only) is initial-capped, "intranet" isn't (because any company or group can have one).) -- Hope this helps a bit, HC

computer-aided decision-making

Explanation:
CAD does stand for Computer Aided Design. It seems that what you have here refers to software designed to assist in making decisions, e.g. on business or finance

English version: http://www.dwo.bull.com/ve/wp0899.htm
"The aim of this document is to show the reader why decision support is a major challenge for most companies and public authorities."
