French term or phrase: retrait / décalage
This is taken from a patent on the subject of a hypermedia system, specifically from a list of modifiable parameters of system properties. The full phrase is "retraits (décalages) par défaut pour les nouveaux objets". My instinct says that it may be "offset / indent", but I may be way off the mark.

English translation:increment (decrement)
Explanation:
It's about an increase (or decrease) with a specific value - by default - of the involved parameters.
I don't think that "indent" is good enough for all the parameters.

I'm still not 100% sure about this, but your answer was certainly interesting. Thanks.

Unfreeze panes by default for new objects

Explanation:
Try "unfreeze panes" which would make sense when you add new items to an existing list.
