HEPA (High Energy Particulate Air Filter) Explanation: This is an air filter having an efficiency of 99,9 % or higher and capable of dealing with particles sizes down to 0,01 micrometer. (Filtre d'air dont le rendement est au moins 99,9 % et capable d'arrêter des particules de 0,01 micromètre) See Eurodicautom for examples/definitions Eurodicautom: eurodic.ip.lu:8086/cgi-bin/edicbin/EuroDicWWW.pl |

Absolute filter Explanation: Again, from the same site I mentioned earlier (except under letter "F" this time): "filtre absolu absolute filter" http://www.pmc-vacc.com/french/f.htm Also: "absolute filter (DOD, NATO) A filter capable of cutting off 100% by weight of solid particles greater than a stated micron size. " http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/jel/doddict/data/a/00014.html "NEW SUPER ULTRA ABSOLUTE FILTER II EASY TO CONTROL FOR 0.1mm PARTICLE" http://user.chollian.net/~cfkansan/english/products/ulpa/sup... The HEPA filter is one in the category of absolute filters: "1940s: Absolute filter The first "Absolute" filter was designed by the research and development firm Arthur D. Little (ADL) under a classified government contract to solve a top-secret critical need at the Manhattan Project, where the first atomic bomb was developed during World War II. The need: to find an efficient and effective way to filter radioactive contaminants from the air. With 99.95% efficiency on 0.3 micron particles, the Absolute high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter was a major step forward in air filtration technology. By 1950, the Absolute was declassified, and ADL and Carrier Corporation formed the Cambridge Corporation in Syracuse, N.Y. to market the product commercially. The Cambridge Filter Corporation was spun off as an independent company in 1954. After purchasing Cambridge in 1991, Farr Company acquired its HEPA filtration technology and became the manufacturer and marketer of Absolute filters." http://www.farrco.com/documents/firsts.htm |
