Explanation: I just checked Termium, and it very much looks like this is a damper rod. Here's what it has for "damper":
English:Closing Devices and Nozzles (Mechanical)
HVAC Distribution Systems
damper s CORRECT
DEF - A device capable of regulating the amount of air flowing in a duct. s
DEF - a valve or plate regulating the flow of air or other fluid. s
CONT - The damper is usually a sheet metal disc that can be turned inside the round supply duct to adjust the flow of air.... s
I looked at the assorted offerings Termium had for "axe" and, amongst others, found "rod," although not related to the field in question; however, "damper rod" is what I get the most Google hits for by far: 388. LDGT and Termium have a number of other renderings of "axe"; see farther on.
Termium does have "clapper/dry pipe valve" but in a very limited context:
English:Fixed Rescue Facilities (Fire)
air and water clapper s
differential dry-pipe valve s

Termium limits the meaning of "pin" to a different area:

And this is what the GDT has:
A stud articulating within a bushing of an inside link and secured at its end by the pin-link plates.
