Not particularly elegant, but usually expressed as follows: Carbon residue on 10% distillation residue OR Carbon Residue at 10% distillation residue Reference to the Ramsbottom OR Conradsen method (International Standard) This test method covers the determination of the amount of carbon residue left after evaporation and pyrolisis of an oil, and is intended to provide some indication of relative coke-forming propensity. The method is generally applicable to relatively non volatile petroleum products which partially decompose on distillation at atmospheric pressure. The principle consists on heating a sample at 550°C during 20 min. in a coking bulb and then weighing the residue.
