French term or phrase:terres retenues
In the sentence below can anyone think of a better term than "earth retained" for "terres retenues"?
"Putting aside the mechanically dangerous situation of the supporting walls positioned along the excavation boundary, roots can be observed coming out of the "terres retenues" having passed through the masonry."
