reinforced/unreinforced rubber?
Explanation:
I think that the rubber (or nitrile rubber) can be used on its own, or can be reinforced, by soaking a woven fabric in the liquid rubber, before setting it.

This is most notably used, AFAIK, for making wetsuits !
