Certain Swedish customs authorities equipped with instruments capable of reading microchips of the brands Indexel or Data Mars, however the Swedish Board of Agriculture does not guarantee that suitable readers are available which means that the pet owner/importer would have to provide their own microchip reader, at their expense. to enable the microchip number to be read successfully. If microchips of other brands are used, the owner must provide the appropriate reading instrument.

electronic tagging

Explanation:
...is the most widely used term, I believe.

Here are a few examples of use:

"Tag and Trace is a real time resource management system using electronic tags to identify assets and radio frequency technology to gather asset information.
Tagging can be simple or revolutionary (web-based showcase on this site)
If it can be Tagged - it can be Traced.

The automatic identification industry is growing rapidly. Tags used for identification exist in many forms and appear on such items as luggage, dogs, trains, and fruit. As with many advancing technologies, a variety of standards exist that do not interoperate and thus hinder widespread deployment.

Regardless, the trend for the growth of this technology is inescapable: Electronic machine-readable tags, or e-tags, are becoming tiny, cheap, and easy to deploy, and they can serve as data repositories for the objects to which they are attached. Imagine if every object ever processed had one or more machine-readable tags embedded into it. What applications would that enable? These tags would uniquely identify the object and be readable from a distance—not even requiring a battery. In addition to identification information, e-tags can record their history or offer dynamic data from an embedded sensor—indicating, for example, the tag's temperature. Such benefits could drastically change the way we do business."

"e-tag® - the button with a memory

Oxley e-tag® Electronic Data Tagging Systems are an alternative to conventional bar code and manual recording systems. e-tag® allows data to be recorded and physically attached to equipment assets creating readily accessible and powerful, portable, micro-databases capable of holding complete equipment lifetime data.

Contact memory buttons, or data tags, are miniature highly rugged, coin shaped devices packed with up to 64 KB of non-volatile EEPROM memory. Unlike bar-code labels, electronic data tags are read/write and do not rely on being ‘on-line’ to retrieve information for the user."
