I think as we're talking about fire prevention equipment, it would have to be tank and not vat which is more an open tank for producing cheese or some such thing.

Explanation:
"porte" indicates this might be a tray or a tank. Its very hard to say for words like these if we do not even have an idea of the field (wine-making? photo developing? vacuum cleaners?)

I did a search using Google for porte-cuve, and came up with a site giving information in both French and English. (see below for address) There are other links at Google as well.
Also, I found translations for porte-cuvette at GDT - either a pan holder if the field is agriculture, or a bowl stand in the field of medicine.

disagree  mckinnc: I don't think you coould asya cuvette here. It's only used in chemistry labs in English.
