French term or phrase:maconnerie en céramiques
My French sentence reads "...maconnerie en roches volcaniques ou en céramiques..."
(=...masonry made out of volcanic rocks or ?ceramics?...)
The sentence refers to the building materials used in ancient Roman constructions but in all my reference books I can find no mention of ceramic being used unless it was for household items or included in mosaics. My dictionaries only translate "céramique" as "ceramic" or "pottery". If anyone can shed any light on this matter I'd be very grateful.
Masonry structure made of volcanic ashes or glazed materials
Explanation: Working in a Glass industry where the furnace is constructed with masonry structure using high temperature refractories, I came across a company called Vesuvius (named after the volcano) who specialise in manufacturing refractory mortar or cement akin to the lava that flows down when the volcano erupts.
