Tech/Engineering
French term or phrase: pincement
Domaine: brides (flanges)

clamping
Explanation:
It seems to me that we are talking about 'clamping' a steel sealing ring between the two flanges; I'd probably re-cast the sentence to make it a verbal rather than nominal expression:
'...a steel ring-washer [toroidal washer, O-ring] clamped between the 2 flanges"

Were it a compressible rubber washer, we could say 'pinching', but to me this doesn't quite seem to work if it's made of steel!

Thanks for your input. I actually found the exact translation in this particular context. COINING: The condition of bringing metal surfaces of differing hardness so tightly together that the softer surface deforms to match the harder surface exactly in shape and finish. Aplies to ring gaskets in flanges.

Explanation:

OBS - pincement (longueur) s

OBS - The length defined as follows: The ends of the horizontal diameters of the interior contours of the rims corresponding to the same axle are the apices of an isosceles trapezium. The difference between the length of the rear base and that of the forward base of the trapezium is the toe-in, the difference being positive when the wheels are closer together in front than behind, and negative in the contrary case. s
OBS - toe-in (length)

Explanation:
