C'est un équipement de protection individuel contre les chutes qu'on porte lors de travails en hauteur, par exemple, dans la construction de bâtiments. Cet équipement s'attache au corps par la taille, les cuises, les épaules et la poitrine et est fixé avec une corde pour empêcher de tomber de très haut.

"Una Línea de Vida no es sino un dispositivo de anclaje móvil, puede establecerse para la realización de unos trabajos determinados y ocasionales y una vez finalizados puede desmontarse y guardarse para una siguiente utilización. Además la llamamos línea porque nos permite desplazarnos por ella horizontalmente, por ejemplo en un tejado, un puente-grúa, etc... Si los trabajos en dicho lugar fueran muy habituales deberíamos barajar la posibilidad de instalar una Línea de Vida fija."
