EXTRACT
11. Family crest

Fennell crest
Arms: Azure, on a chevron or, between
three pelicans argent, as many mullets gules. Crest: A hunting horn
sans strings. LAMH LAIDIR AN NACHTAR. Compendium, p. 221. [A similar motto--“Lamb laidir an uachdar”-- means “The strongest hand uppermost.”–under O’Brien. [Verify CITE–P. 45 FAIRBAIRN’s Book of Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland (Baltimore 1968).]

Note: The motto “Lamh laidir an nachtar” is listed as that of
“O Brien” [sic–no apostrophe]. Ibid. at p. 1173.

I suspect there is a misprint of 'uachtar' (nachtar) going around the web - see this page - as the O'Brien motto seems to have the former not the latter.
