scattered planting

Explanation:
I'm thinking of orchards I've seen in the southern part of the Black Forest.

the trees are not planted in narrow rows, where they have to compete for nourishment. Therefore, furtilization comes naturally from falling leaves and the occasional rotten apple.
And the worms!

In my opinion, the scattering refers even to the way the tree would plant it's offspring, by scattering seeds.

Am I going overboard?

Explanation:
This is really difficult to translate, because we (at least in the US) do not have this concept to my knowledge. It refers (normally) a small orchard of apple trees where no pesticides or other chemicals are used, thus focusing on nature. I have some friends who have such a small orchard and they usually sell this apples to a juice producer. Such apples are supposed to have an exceptionally good taste.

Good luck!

Explanation:
I found reference to this in a Heft called Politische Oekologie (4/96, article on Industrial Garden Realm - "Farmers' market instead of world market", written by Babette Scurrel) There she calls a Streuanbau an "undisturbed organic orchard". Based on that, I tried to find similar in English in the Internet. The only thing I found was wild orchards and organically grown orchards. See http://www.appleluscious.com/

Hope this helps!!!
