Yes, I'm certain it's what meant, but don't think we've hit on the right translation yet. Maybe the direct translation is the best? Laying areas - there are obviously more than one which implies a large cattle farm. Organic? Sounds like it, but the Swiss are more humane anyway and nearly everything grown there is organic more or less.

Kidding aside, I think that that is exactly what as meant here, Ramey. You'd usually drag a pasture after the cattle have been moved to another one in order to break up the manure so that it gets more easily incorporated in the soil as natural fertilizer rather than physically remove it. If it ever got so thick that you had to physically remove it, it would kill the pasture.
