Before we go through the entire decorative repertoire. Cavetto means 'little cave' or similar. It is a concave profile. It is also used as an alternate term for the 'well' (Spiegel) of a plate.

Thank you for the explanation! Maybe I got a little bit confused by Oxford's first explanation, which explained a cornice as the moulding itself (I know Profile from the plastics industry, but that's a bit different):
"An ornamental moulding round the wall of a room just below the ceiling."

I guess in the worst case, you could always write "typical Regency mouldings" :)

It is the decoration on whatever the object is that is being described. One could well find a cornice with beaded moulding. In fact, your link described 'beads' as being one of the decorative elements, along with 'egg-and-dart' moulding. Don't confuse 'Wulst' with 'Wulstprofil'. The former would be the whole thing as a free-standing object in the round; the latter gives the appearance of the object but is cut away (effectively) to the base. It may be in higher or lower relief, depending on its use.

There are many different patterns of beaded moulding. You are comparing to specific, non-identical forms. Have a look at egg-and-dart or some of the many types listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molding_(decorative)

Out of curiosity, what has "Wulst" as in

All of your links point to strings of beads, which is not how I know "Wulst" in German. (German also quarter circle, English semi-circle).

Here is a pic of a frame with some décor described as in Wulstprofil: http://www.conzen.de/11-auktion-antiker-rahmen-bei-conzen-fl... (go to lot 53). I think you would be pretty safe to describe it as beaded moulding/s.

We haven't had this particular word before, but we have had Wulst several times - it means raised or beaded.
