I do agree with Anya that "mould" might not be a wise choice here. What gives me pause is the use of the adjective "bedeutend" -- it seems to indicate that this is what gives the piece its shape. Without any further context (and I assume you don't have a picture?), it's difficult to guess what this might refer to. Would "the significant, shaping piece" work? Or merely "the significant part" ? Just a couple more suggestions...
