German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general) / business consulting
German term or phrase: Fachberatung
Any ideas on how best to translate "Fachberatung"?

This comes up in a text on systemic organisational consulting in a section differentiating between "Prozessberatung" (here process consulting) and "Fachberatung".

Prozessberatung zielt auf Steuerung von Kommunikations- und Interaktionsprozessen in und zwischen Organisationen, Fachberatung hingegen auf Optimierung von standardisierten Geschäftsprozessen.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

technical consulting

Explanation:
...is a straightforward translation that seems to fit the description provided by the context, i.e. the technical tweaking (optimization) of standardized business processes.

Hope that helps!

neutral  Derek Gill Franßen: I think that the "Optimierung von standardisierten Geschäftsprozessen" includes more than just "technical" consultation. :-)

-> Agree, but it also means more than "Fachberatung"; that is why the author of the text follows the term by a written-out explanation.

Prozessberatung ./. Fachberatung
communication consulting v. process consulting

Explanation:
I've based my suggestions more on your descriptions, than on the words themselves.

neutral  Steffen Walter: But the "communication consulting" component seems to be part of the process consulting - see source: "***Prozessberatung*** zielt auf Steuerung von ***Kommunikations***- und Interaktionsprozessen..."

-> That's why I suggest translating "Prozessberatung" as "communication consulting" (interaction is also communication); I would translate "Fachberatung" as "process consulting" (which seems to involve "processes" more than what they call "Prozessberatung").
