agree  Maria Ferstl: Yes, there's also the common abbreviation VL/CO = Vorlesung mit Konversatorium, which means that not only the prof. speaks, but also discussions will take place, exercises will be assigned and you can't be often absent. (In German, colloquium is the exam)
